An update from Waew

Hello everyone! First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Waew. I am currently studying Visual Effects in a programme called FXTD (Effects Technical Director) at Lost Boys Studio in Vancouver, Canada.

When I first arrived, I was a bit surprised because the environment in the school felt like a cave or a cinema. This is because students here need to have precise vision when looking at computer screens, so no sunlight is allowed in. Most students also prefer working in the dark here.

The school is open every day, 24 hours a day. This allows students to come in and work at any time. The instructors here are very professional and kind, but they also push students to constantly challenge themselves as much as possible. For example, every Monday morning, there is a screening where students present what they have learned over the past week, and what progress they have made in their projects. Then, every Friday before class ends, there is an activity called “Friday Challenge,” where students are randomly assigned a small project to complete within 45 minutes. This is quite exciting for me because it keeps me on my toes and always prepared.

There are many international students at the school, from countries like Japan, China, Korea, Mexico, the United States, and Taiwan. This has allowed me to learn about different cultures and try food from various countries. My friends come from a wide range of backgrounds, which is wonderful and fun, and I’m really happy to meet everyone.

Students spend nearly 10 hours a day at school, so my goal, aside from studying hard, is to explore outside more as well.

It’s snowing now, and it’s very cold. Please wish me luck on making it through this winter well.
